Training the right people?

A lot of time and money can be saved by ensuring the right candidates are offered the opportunity of language training. Placing a candidate in the wrong group can mean lack of progress or have a demotivating or progress slowdown effect on other group members. Key selection criteria in a candidate include choosing someone who:
  • Already speaks the language? (to some degree)

  • Already speaks a similar language? (for example, speaks Spanish and needs to learn Italian)

  • Is bilingual?

  • Likes the people and the country?
  • Enjoys travelling?

  • Enjoys foreign cultures?

  • Will get the opportunity to use the language regularly at work, or at leisure?
